Technical Communication Expert & Educator
I am a Technical Communication expert with over 25 years of experience in higher education and State of Texas government agencies. My work experience in government agencies informs my teaching and research, which focus on public policy writing, plain language, ethics, and social justice. As a professor, I've led graduate students in service-learning UX projects throughout the state of Texas, connecting academic work with real-world applications.
About Me
I am a Professor of English at Texas State University and have taught in the M.A. in Technical Communication Program for over 20 years. Prior to my work as a professor, I spent nearly a decade in Texas government agencies.
My research focuses on the intersection of technical communication, policy development and editing, ethics, and social justice. I am passionate about making complex information accessible through plain language and ensuring that communication serves the public good.
As a fifth generation Texan, I am deeply committed to serving my community and preparing the next generation of technical communicators to work ethically and effectively in both public and private sectors. For more information about my experience, publications, and research, see my faculty profile here.
